Jennifer's philosophy...
My belief is to integrate Eastern and Western natural methods of healing and to work with a truly eclectic healthcare system where the chief objective is to understand the underlying causes of ill health, and to support the body's power to heal itself. Today, we are experiencing a resurgence in the popularity of natural medicine and holistic techniques where the aim is to restore and promote balance in the whole person.
'Vis medicatrix naturae' - or 'the healing power of nature', is the underlying principle of all complementary medical therapies. Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine referred to
'vis medicatrix naturae' as a highly beneficial healing energy that flowed through all living things. Plato, a contemporary of Hippocrates, also taught that man had the power to heal himself. He realised what has often been ignored with the advent of science that man is a trinity and illness is due to an imbalance in the mind, body and spirit, a view also shared by many cultures worldwide.
As Professor Lesley Rees, Director of Education at the Royal College of Physicians wrote earlier in 2001 in the BMJ (British Medical Journal) regarding Integrated Medicine where the focus is on...
"
...health and healing rather than disease and treatment. It view patients as whole people with minds and spirits as well as bodies and includes these dimensions in diagnosis and treatment... Conventional medicine has become dependent on expensive technological solutions to health problems, even when they are not particularly effective... it has turned its back on holism and simple methods of intervention".
