Q. I have recently changed jobs, and am suffering from higher levels of anxiety than before. I think I am subconsciously concerned about my performance and acceptance. This has resulted in poor sleep and palpitations, as well as generally feeling on edge. I am currently receiving hypnosis. Can you recommend something herbal that might help?

A.Herbs Hands Healing’s Chamomile & Vervain (£7 for 50ml; 0845 345 3727, www.herbshandshealing.co.uk) is a wonderful formula designed by the renowned herbalist and natural healer Jill Davies. The range uses medicinal plants, most grown locally, that are organic, biodynamic and collected from sustainable wild sources. Davies believes that creating “field to pharmacy” products of the highest possible quality ensures first-class preventative care and holistic healing.

The 14 herbs used in this are all “nervines”, a term used in herbal medicine to indicate that they tone and strengthen the nerves by feeding, regulating and strengthening nerve cells. The herbs work together, rather like different musical instruments in an orchestra, and the overall aim is simultaneously to stimulate and sedate the system, in order to deal with any overexertion or underexertion of the nerves.

Davies suggests taking 5ml of the formula in 25ml of water or fruit juice up to five times daily for one week. For longer-term restoration, continue using it for up to three months. Do not use this product if you are on prescription medication.
